The East Godavari District Administration has selected 20 ration shops in the district for implementation of the biometric system for distribution of essential commodities as a pilot project.
Joint Collector Babu Ahmed, while explaining the salient features of the system at a meeting of the RDOs, Tahasildars and assistant supply officers here today, said ration would be distributed by confirming the finger prints of the cardholder with the help of the Aadhaar unique number data. Of the 20 identified ration shops,13 are in Kakinada Revenue Division and the remaining are in other divisions.
In all these shops, the process of comparing of the ration cards data with that of the Aadhaar number data would be completed within a week. The special electronic device that gives the authentication of Aadhaar based finger prints would be kept at all these ration shops. “This system ensures the fool proof distribution of essential commodities to the genuine beneficiaries”, he added.
